The ADA and Reassignment: Unlocking the Value of this Accommodation of Last Resort

Workshop 2 | Wednesday, May 10 | 2:45 - 4:15

The ADA/ADAAA incentivizes employers to reasonably accommodate employees in their current positions. However, in a “leaner and meaner” environment with an aging workforce, employers face situations in which employees with long term restrictions cannot be accommodated. In the United Airlines case and its $1 million settlement, the Courts have clearly put employers on notice – they must have a compliant and defensible reassignment process.  In this workshop, Maine Medical Center’s Integrated Disability, Absence and Accommodation Manager, Tom LeRoy and ADA Specialist, Diane Davis, will guide you through best practices for your organization. From recognizing reassignment opportunities, to assessing outcomes and proper documentation, learn how to build and implement a rigorous process that leads to a win for employees, managers, and the organization as a whole.
