8:30 - 9:30   KEYNOTE: The Path from Uncertainty to Meaningful Work: A Business Necessity

Stuart CrabbThe acceleration of uncertainty is one of today’s few certainties. From the changing nature of the middle class to the structure of the family unit and to the way we view leadership, we are in the midst of profound shifts in how we perceive ourselves and others. This filters directly to the workplace, which many now view as their refuge from this accelerated uncertainty. Stuart Crabb joins us to add some perspective. Specifically, how employers can structure a transformational strategy that creates meaningful, impactful work which enhances the “refuge,” enhances the employer’s mission and productivity, and perhaps begins to shift the uncertainty itself. Stuart recently served as Facebook’s Director of Learning, and he will share Facebook’s strategy for working in this environment. He will focus on four key management behaviors. 1) Looking through the lens of the individual experience so that employees can play to their strengths. 2) Creating a culture in which hard, respectful conversations can occur. 3) Nurturing a workforce that is already working at capacity. 4) Enhancing an environment where individuals can be their authentic selves. All four of these behaviors play out at each critical moment of the employment relationship – the interview, the performance review, and all the significant one on one conversations in between. Underlying all of this is a theme of hope and caring.

Stacie Mallen is now with her 8th startup company as Chief People Officer of CampusLogic -- a high-growth tech company that is changing the way Financial Aid is conducted. She’ll present her conceptual framework of why Rules Make Rebels. And from her experience as an HR leader, she’ll offer disruptive, new ways of thinking designed to help you position innovation as a business strategy, build new strategic relationships, and be a catalyst for entrepreneurial thinking and business metrics. She will share examples of this new rhythm and structure for HR and business through the stories of three special guests - young professionals aspiring to greatness. This isn’t about rebellion for rebellion’s sake, rather it’s about constructive non-conformity and the unraveling of traditional hierarchical leadership structures. A bit of rebellion can help build trust.
